Tenses - Kinds




KINDS OF TENSES :---

  There are three  main Tenses:---
 
  (a) The Present Tense
  (b) The Past Tense                                                  
  (c) The Future Tense

 
  (a) THE   PRESENT   TENSE :--

      A Verb, that refers to present time, is said to be in the Present Tense; as,
    
     * I write.
     * You go.
     * Hema sings.
  
  (b) THE  PAST  TENSE :--
     
      A Verb, that refers to past time, is said to be in the Past Tense; as,
    
     * I wrote.
     * You went.
     * Hema sang.

  (c) THE   FUTURE  TENSE :--
    
  A Verb, that refers to future time, is said to be in the Future Tense; as,
     * I shall go.
     * You will go.
     * Hema will sing.

     FORMS   OF  TENSES :--

  Each tense has four forms :--
 
   i) Simple or Indefinite
  ii) Continuous
 iii) Perfect
 iv ) Perfect Continuous
 
  Thus  we  have  twelve  forms  of  tenses :--
 
  1. The Present Indefinite or the Simple Present Tense
  2. The Present Continuous Tense
  3. The Present Perfect Tense
  4. The Present Perfect Continuous Tense
  5. The Past Indefinite or the Simple Past Tense
  6. The Past Continuous Tense
  7. The Past Perfect Tense
  8. The Past Perfect Continuous Tense
  9. The Future Indefinite or the Simple Future Tense
 10. The Future Continuous Tense
 11. The Future Perfect Tense
 12. The Future Perfect Continuous Tense
