ADJECTIVES

In
English grammar, the degree of comparison of an adjective describes the
relational value of one thing with something in another clause of a
sentence.
There are three degrees of comparison of Adjectives :--
(1) Positive Degree,

Comparative Degree, and
(3)
Superlative Degree
(1) THE POSITIVE DEGREE :--
The positive degree of adjective simply describes the quality of a noun; as,
* A deep river, a big field, a happy child.
e.g. :--
* Rama's mango is sweet.
* Vimla's watch is costly.
* Sunita is beautiful.
(2) THE COMPARATIVE DEGREE :--
The comparative degree of adjective denotes comparison between two nouns or
pronouns.
Note :--
* It is always followed by ' than '.
e.g. :--
* Hema's mango is sweeter than Rama's.
* Kamla's watch is costlier than Vimla's.
* Priya is more beautiful than Sunita.

(3) THE SUPERLATIVE DEGREE :--
The superlative degree of adjective indicates or points out the highest degree of the quality of a noun or pronoun.
Note :-- It is always preceded by 'the'; as,
The sweetest mango , the longest river , the most beautiful girl etc.
e.g.:--
* Gauri's mango is the sweetest of all.
* Vipula's watch is the costliest of all.
* Savita is the most beautiful girl in the class.
