Adjective


ADJECTIVE :---
 
  An Adjective is a word which qualifies or describes a Noun or Pronoun.

   e.g.:--  clever, lazy, good, four, rich etc.
       * Seema is a clever girl.
       * Ram lives in a big house.
       * He is rich.
    In the above sentences :--
       * ' clever ' qualifies ' girl ',
       * ' big ' qualifies ' house ', and
       * ' rich ' qualifies   'he' .
 Note:--
 ------
    
        * Adjective means 'added to'.
        * An Adjective is a word used with a noun to add something for its meaning.

     Uses  of  Adjective:--
   
     (a) Attributive use:-- When the adjective is placed just before the noun it qualifies, it is said to be Attributive use.                                                
          e.g.:--
      
        * Good people are sincere to their duty.
         
        
     (b) Predicative use :-- When the Adjective is used in the predicate part or the sentence having no noun after it, it is said to be Predicative use.
        
           e.g.:--
        * Harish is healthy.

         EXAMPLES   OF  ADJECTIVE :---
    
               Red, blue, green, black, ugly, colourful, colourless, strong, weak, weaker, low, higher, ten, fifty, some, few, many, French, Indian, able, large, small, easy, sad, happy, fatter, courageous, beautiful, poor, wealthy, old, young, upper, hot, cold, warm, wise, later, latter, nearest, next, older, elder, latest, last, farther, further, golden, silken, foolish, boyish, troublesome, shameless, dirty, clean, white, whitish, whole,honest, any, each, either, enough etc.

 IDENTIFICATION   OF  ADJECTIVE :--
 
If a word is an adjective:
1.  It can be used before a noun.
2.  It can take the comparative ending er.
3.  It can take the superlative ending est.
4.  It can follow the verb seems.


Example--Is the word 'strong'  is an adjective ?
Adjective:
1.  It can be used before a noun : strong man
2.  It can take the ending er:  stronger
3.  It can take the ending est: The man is the strongestest in the county. 
4.  It can follow the verb seems: The man seems strong...
 The answer to all these is 'yes'. The word strong is an adjective.
