Conditionals - First Conditionals

{B}  First Conditionals:

Nature: Real possibility

These sentences show the condition of real possibility.

Time: This condition refers either to present or to future time.

Note:

*We use the present simple in the if-clause.

*We use will in the main clause, to express certainty in the future.

STRUCTURE:

if + present simple, ... will + infinitive

If	condition	result
	present simple	WILL + base verb
If	it rains	I will stay at home.

If	condition	result
	present simple	WILL + present simple
If	I get enough sleep,	I will feel better.

If	condition	result
	present simple	WILL+present simple
If	you study hard,	your English will improve.

Some examples:

*If I have time, I will visit you.

*If I see him, I will tell him.

*If you don't hurry, you will miss the bus.

*If it rains, I won't go to the park.

*If I study today, I'll go to the party tonight.

*If I have enough money, I'll buy some new shoes.

*If I see her, I'll tell her.

*She 'll be late if the train is delayed.

*She'll miss the bus if she doesn't leave soon.

Correct Use:

Correct :If you go to England, you will improve your English.

Incorrect: If you will go to England, you will improve your English.

Reason:  We use the present simple in the if-clause.

Correct : If I find his address, I will send him the letter.

Incorrect : If I find his address, I send him the letter.

Reason:We use will in the main clause, to express certainty in the future.

Correct : I'll tell him if I see him.

Incorrect : I'll tell him if I will see him.

Reason: We use the present simple in the if-clause.
